AUDACITY AT THE F.I.T.

Audacity Proudly presents the Regional Premiere of James Pinkowski's MINT JULEPS as part of the Fourth Annual Festival of Independent Theatres. This is Audacity's first appearance at the FIT.

The production unfolds in a nonlinearly structure, taking place in a sort of dreamscape as one woman, Carol (Amy Seale Moore) confronts her memories of, Ruby, a friend now gone (Laurel Whitsett). The cryptic exchange between the two at an out-of-the-way café is broken up by a waiter named after a viking (Brendan Ahern) who continually fails to replace their tea bags.

The annual Festival of Independent Theatres has become one of the hottest theatrical/cultural events in Dallas. Nine local theatre companies perform over four weekends, creating an incredibly diverse theatre experience. Audacity is thrilled to join Beardsley Living Theatre, Bucket Productions, Cara Mia Theatre Company, Core Performance Manufactory, Echo Theatre, Ground Zero Theatre Company, Theatre Quorum and Wing Span Theatre for the 4th Annual FIT.

Brad McEntire directs. Jeska Amspoker Stage Manages, while Russell Dyer rejoins Audacity to design some magically simple lighting. MINT JULEPS plays July 11 thru August 3 at the Bath House Cultural Center, 521 East Lawther, Dallas, Texas 75218. Specific performance times & dates at: www.bathhousecultural.com or the Audacity website: www.audacityproductions.org Tickets can be reserved through TITAS at 214-528-5576

ASK THE T-MAC... um... Terrance Mac

Dear T-Mac,

My job recently hired a new girl. I find her to be really attractive. I've talked to her a few times, and we've seemed to click. I'd like to ask her out but I'm really nervous, what if she says no? I don't want to risk a good working environment, should things go wrong. What should I do?

~Bob the computer programmer

Bob,

Bob, you've caught me at an interesting time in my life. First, I have a new girlfriend, Samantha. Samantha loves watching Oprah, which means; I too, love watching Oprah. Over the last few weeks, I've come to the conclusion that I've never really been a productive member of society. My years of drinking, pimping and drug abuse have not only hurt me, but those that I love. In fact my girlfriend and I have decided that I should no longer go by the name T-Mac, but rather by my God given name, Terrance Mac. The other thing is that I recently had to attend a sexual harassment seminar for Audacity Productions. I don't know why, it's just me, and that little puss Bonnigan working in a little room. I mean shit, it's not like I'm gonna cop a feel anytime soon. Bob, through Oprah, and through my recent seminar I know that you are in a bit of a predicament. Bob, men have needs too. Bob you need to be strong, and tell this girl that you like her. However you should not be flirting or trying to bust up yo shit while at work. I think I would approach the situation with caution. Axe da' bitch… um… co-worker to a lunch, something very easy. Should she decline, respect her whishes … fuck. Fuck Oprah, and fuck harassment. Look, Bob, you wanna get wit da bitch, all you gotta do is say, "Damn baby, you fine." She don't come to that, smack her around, see how she like that. Okay Bob, I gotta go toss Bonnigan's salad, git him like Tank got me while I served time for jacking cars. Then I gotta kill my ex-girlfriend. Peace.

-T-mac.

Two years ago Audacity Productions gathered more that thirty actors, writers and directors to put together One Day Only!, a 24-hour play festival. The event started the evening of May 19, 2000. Writers met in a small hotel room to hammer out original plays. After the plays were finalized a small band of directors picked out actors from a small talent pool to act in these original plays. Directors and actors had the remainder of the day to iron out the kinks in the plays. The curtain was raised on the new plays at 8pm on May 20, roughly 24 hours after the artists first met. The experiment went on to produce plays like THE ELEPHANT ROOM by Jason Stuart, and DERLETH MYTHOS by Phil Gonzoles. Audacity Productions Artistic Director Brad McEntire said, "The outcome was a highly spontaneous, gut-instinct form on theater, with actors braving tightrope performances of plays without histories, where literally, anything could happen."

Audacity Productions is once again pushing the envelope with another 24-hour play festival. Once again a group of writers will be locked away over night. They will once again be asked to produce five or six original plays, which will be preformed at the Plano Art Centre Theater in Plano, TX. "We're really looking forward to what the writers come up with this year. Two years ago was such a success, and it was our first time out of the shoot. This time we know what to expect, and we know where the pitfalls lie, so we're expecting nothing but great things." McEntire said from his home in the Swiss Alps.

One More Day Only! is a co-production by Audacity and Rover Dramawerks , and will take place on Saturday, August 17, at the Plano ArtCentre Theatre in Historic Downtown Plano (15th and Avenue K). Curtain goes up at 8 PM. For ticket reservations and other information visit the Audacity website or www.roverdamawerks.com
