On
Saturday August 17, 2002 at 8 PM fifty theatre artists who had just met together
for the first time a mere 24 hours prior mounted seven original plays to a near
capacity house at the Plano ArtCentre Theatre.
For the uninitiated, O(M)DO! was an extraordinary theater process and it worked like this: Writers, directors and actors met on a Friday evening at 9 PM. Photos were taken of the actors while writers drew topics from a hat to base plays on. Writers spent the evening writing short (10-minute) one-act plays. The next morning the plays were given to the directors (who cast from the Polaroids) and actors who rehearsed, memorized, blocked, teched and then performed them for a paying audience at 8 PM on Saturday. Raw, spontaneous, tighrope theatre... just 24 hours old!
