Audacity Staged Reading Series

* NOTE TO INTERESTED PLAYWRIGHTS: The Reading Series is currently NOT in operation. So, we are NOT currently taking submissions for this series. Check this site for future developments.

Dedicated to promoting and fostering new works for the stage, the successful Audacity Staged Reading Series has introduced more than a handful of original new plays to north Texas audiences.

The development of a play is a difficult, creative process and Audacity has supported up-and-coming playwrights around the country by showcasing their works in the final stages of development.

The Staged Reading Series, in short, is a group of professional actors reading scripts never before produced (or previously produced in very limited runs), usually in non-theatre settings; such as art galleries, bookstores, lobbies, libraries, etc. This arrangement emphasizes story and characters. In such unconventional and nontheatrical venues, the plays are really put to the test: Does it tell a story? Can the play hold an audience?

The readings are usually attended by the playwrights with a talk-back discussion following. When the playwright is not able to attend the readings, all efforts are made to document and return feedback to the writers to aide them in further developing the works.

The reading Series is not currently active. Our resources to genuinely help playwrights develope their work were exceeded. And we did not want to be part of that continuing problem in American Theatre called "The Development Loop," producing readings of works more to put the name of our theatre company out there rather than sincerely heralding new work from reading to workshop to production.

Of the plays produced in the Staged Reading Series several have gone on to full-scale productions with either Audacity Productions or with other theatre companies, big and small, around the country.
